KLITSA ANTONIOU

Deprived of a cherished and intimate existing history, I have a need of tangible souvenirs, reminders of things I have experienced, locations I have visited, sights and views I have witnessed… These are the etchings of nostalgia and anticipation, of internal, emotional history associated to location or dislocation. It is in my art that all these seem more comprehensible to me… Images and reflections from the past dominate or entirely replace the present, reminders, keepsakes and mementos become substitutes of vanished landscapes…My work has developed into an assemble of memory drawn from sensory experience, a somatic recollection, an “archival surface” which carries the marks and blemishes of memoirs and reminiscences, a membrane of accumulated traces of homeness…an expression of a Life in fragments. It has currently become a story of a transitory often-mutated “life form” on a floating land.
